Why Trimming Your Candle Wick Matters (for Both Cotton and Wooden Wicks)
Share
If you love candles as much as I do, you probably want them to burn cleanly and last as long as possible. One of the easiest ways to get a better burn is by trimming your candle wick before each use. It only takes a few seconds — but it makes all the difference.
For Cotton Wicks
Trim your cotton wick to about ¼ inch before lighting. A shorter wick helps your candle burn evenly, prevents soot buildup, and keeps the flame steady. You’ll notice less flickering, less smoke, and a cleaner scent throw — perfect for getting the most out of your favorite candles. Watch video here!
For Wooden Wicks
If you love wood wick candles, trimming is just as important. Before relighting, gently pinch or clip off the blackened tip of the wick, leaving about ⅛ inch of fresh wood exposed. This helps the wick light more easily, creates that signature soft crackle, and keeps your candle from producing excess smoke. Watch video here!
