Tips for Burning Wooden Wick Candles
1. Light it slowly.
Hold your candle at an angle and let the flame make contact with the wick for 8–10 seconds. This helps the wood catch fire evenly. Watch here!
2. Let the first burn set the stage. During your first lighting, allow the melted wax to reach the edges of the jar before blowing it out. This prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn. Expect this to take 2–3 hours.
3. Trim before every burn.
Always trim the charred part of the wick down before lighting again. This is essential — if the wick is too long, the flame may be too high; too short, and it may not light at all.
Gently break off the burnt tip with your fingers or use a wick trimmer. Watch here!
4. Over-trimmed? No problem.
If you accidentally trim too much, use a butter knife to scrape a little wax from around the wick to expose fresh wood, then relight.
5. Adjust if needed.
If the flame gets too high or too low during a long burn, simply remove any loose ash or charred bits from the top of the wick — this helps the flame return to its ideal height.
